Evaluation - Question 7

Comparison: Preliminary V Main Task

VS.

When we created the Prelimiary Task it was our first experience of using the software Adobe Pemier Elements and using the camera. This ment our editing was very basic, although we did use match on match action and the 180 degree rule. Our camera shots were also very basic as we only used shots such as mid-shots, long shot, close up ect.
Also because this was the first time of using Adobe Premier Elements we wasnt too sure on how to increase the sound of the clips and fade in and out the music. Therefore the the music just stopped quite abruptly and the sound of the characters speaking wa very quite. However in our main task we played around with the adobe software and learnt how to fade in music and have music playing in the background.
We struggled using the portable microphone, for our preliminary task, as the first time we recorded it recorded with no sound. So we recorded it a second time but with the camera microphone. We had learnt from this and when it came to the main task, we made sure there was sound when using both microphones.

Evaluation - Question6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the time i've been planning, filming and editing, i've come across many different programs and equipment. I've learnt how to use Adobe Premiere Elements with little help, mainly from my own research. I am now more confident with editing and have learnt lot of useful skills. I've learnt how to create titles, editing the colouring of the clip and with continuity editing.
One of the main pieces of equipment i had to learn to use was the camera. I had to learn how to position the camera, focus and zoom. I have also learnt the 180-degree rule and the effect of this.

When filiming the clown jumping infront of the window we had to think about the positioning of the camera because the reflecion of the class ment we could see the camera in the shot. However we got around this by having the camera at a certain angle so it did not appear in the reflection.
Skills i have developed are how to edit clips, cut them and make the speed up/slowdown. I've also learnt how to use a camera and zoom in and out on the camera, while using a variety of different shots. I have developed editing skills on the Adobe Premier Elements software. Ive learnt how to insert music into the clips and to fade the music. However i do need to practice editing more as i still could improve on my editing skills. I ave also learnt how to use a camera and where to place the camera to get the best shot.

Evaluation - Question5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Genre Conventions

Genre Conventions attracts our audience. There are several genre conventions we have used in our film, our clip focuses mainly on a clown which are commonly known as innocent and playful but are represented as dark and twisted in our opening titles. This would attract our audience (15+) because they're intrigued what happens and perhaps if the clown had a motive to kill.

Use of Music

Our use of music and sound is sadistic which links to the Production Company of our film, 'Sadistic Studios'. The sounds/music in our opening titles attracts our audience as it sets up the atmosphere of the film and makes them want to know more. Also the sounds we used, like the clowns laugh, came across as very creepy and sinister, emphasizing the horror genre.

Similarities with other movies

A main part of our film is the ending when the clown pops the balloon, with a knife, near he girls face. In the film ‘IT’, which is focused on a clown, have a scene where the clown pops balloons in front of people and when he pops them blood squirts all over the persons face.

I think all of these points contribute to the Unique Selling Point.

Evaluation - Question4

Who would be the audience for your media product?
Age

We have put our age rating as 15+ which means that the target audience is no one less than 15 years old, but anyone aged 15 and over can watch it. The target audience age is older teenagers and young adults that enjoy the horror genre. I would enjoy this sort of film, as i am 17 and like watching horror films. However i would tend to wach horrors with a group of friends.
Gender
The target gender for this product isnt specifically aimed at a certain gender as it's meant for both. Males could find this film more interesting than girls might because of the gore in the film. Its also very jumpy so boys would be more likely to watch with a group of mates, compared to a group of girls.

Class

John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett in the Class Sketch The class that i think this product is focused on is the C/D/E social class category and it would attract occupations such as builders, shop workers etc. The 'lower-class' may be more attracted to this type of film as the characters in the film have similar social status as the viewers. Also'upper-class' may find the film to have a lack of intellectual design.

As you can see from my questionnaire the younger ages seem to all watch horror films often.
